Prepared with a crisp 20 dollar bill in my pocket, I went downtown with some friends to watch Larry the Cable Guy perform his latest stand-up routine. Another friend of ours booked him for this show and knew Larry requested a meet-and-greet beforehand. She also knew there was still room available for more fans to come meet and/or greet him so she invited us back.
He walked out to mingle and while he was socializing I noticed one thing; this down-home, I-tell-you-what accent is just part of his act. Oh, it makes perfect sense. He’s performing a show. But boy was I surprised. I really liked this cable guy persona that I’ve gotten to know. He seems so approachable like he could be one of my cousins from the midwest.
I was interested to see what else I could learn about his off-stage personality. So, holding my camera, I walked up to him and said hi. He smiled and I continued.
“This is kinda weird, but will you do me a favor?" "YES!" he said with enthusiasm. What a happy relief. Even with his could-be-from-Santa-Monica accent, he was as personable as I’d imagined.
He seemed to think he knew what was coming, but then I explained My Celebrity Photo Album. “It's just a bunch of pictures of me taken by celebrities. Will you take my picture?" He snickered and eagerly shot out his hand for the camera.
He took one picture of me alone and then another of us together in case I needed proof. It was quick and because he had other people waiting to talk to him, I thanked him and moved on.
It’s too bad he’s not a real cable guy though. My 20 dollar bill and I were hoping he could hook us up with some PayPerView. I wanted to get the fight this weekend.
Still super fun. Thanks, "Larry."
